The building was later leased by Nuclear Products Diversified, who produced metal parts for nuclear submarines and later produced other metal products. Over the years, two large sections had been added to the back of the original building.
In 2001 Mathews Technical Services purchased the building, and after an extensive cleanup and restoration of some of its best features, 1900 North Second is now home to the company's offices and light manufacturing facility.
The back of the 1900 Building is only 300 feet from a popular entrance to the Katy Trail, an old Missouri-Kansas-Texas (MKT) railroad right-of-way that has been converted to a pedestrian and bicycle roadway.
St. Charles was the first overnight stop for Lewis and Clark's expedition in 1804-1806, when explorers typically traveled only a short distance the first day so it would be easier for them to go back if they forgot anything important.
St. Charles was an active port during the steamboat era of Mark Twain's writing, and many sections of St. Charles have been restored to their original construction and provide a window into this time in history.
Now St. Charles is a great place to relax and recreate, and of course, is a wonderful and productive place to work.
